Sunday is your best day to visit for the fullest Heritage Centre experience. We're also open on selected Saturdays and Wednesdays, but with more limited exhibits and activities — see below for what to expect on each day, and always check the events page before travelling.
Sunday is our core open day. The site, Heritage Café and gift shop are open, exhibits are staffed, and this is when you're most likely to find volunteer groups on site and working. Heritage trains often run — check the individual date on our events page to confirm.
Our miniature railway also only operates on Sundays.
The site is open on Saturdays, but fewer volunteer groups and exhibits are typically active than on a Sunday. Saturdays suit a quieter, shorter visit — if you want to see the site at its fullest, we'd point you towards Sunday instead.
Wednesday openings are limited to selected dates, mainly over the summer season, rather than every week. Please check the events page to confirm whether a specific Wednesday is open before planning a visit.
We typically open on UK bank holidays, including Easter (Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday & Easter Monday), the early May bank holiday, Spring bank holiday and the Summer bank holiday.
Hours on bank holidays are usually 10am – 4pm. Train rides are often available — check the individual event listing to confirm.
Check Bank Holiday EventsWe run additional open days during Nottinghamshire school half-term weeks, making it the perfect family day out during holidays. This typically includes the February, May and October half-term periods.

Check Half-Term EventsThroughout the year we host themed special events — from Steam Galas and classic vehicle rallies to the Flying Scotsman and Santa Specials — which often bring extended hours and unique train services.
