After a successful appeal, long awaited repair work is underway on Stanford Viaduct.
The historic structure carries the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) high above the River Soar where Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire meet. Over the years vandals had pushed brickwork and coping stones into the valley below and covered the structure in graffiti.
The current programme of works will see a mixture of old and new bricks used to rebuild parapet walls, repair vandalism and damage from invasive plants. A start will be made on removing spray painted slogans and murals.
The work has been funded through East Midlands Transport Heritage Trust and their Forward Fund appeal, which encourages donors to contribute small regular amounts, which add up and allow repairs to infrastructure to continue.
