As we prepare the main line route between the heritage centre and the north side of Loughborough for passenger trains, we've been helped out by Volker Rail. They needed somewhere to train operators on a tamping machine. This self propelled rail vehicle is able to lift the rails and sleepers slightly and push ballast into the right place. The result - level track, with no kinks and a much smoother ride.
With our main line needing some work and not being busy with any other trains, it was the ideal place for the training. Watch the film below to see the process in detail.
Following the successful reopening of the branch line between the heritage centre and the main line please note, for now trains only run on special occasions. We'll advertise running dates on the website and of course, we'll let you know when trains are going to run further south along the main line to Rushcliffe Halt.
