The carriage shed is really starting to progress now. Even better, your generous donations are still arriving, as our contractors carry on. There's a new total to reveal at the end of this article.
First, take a look at the picutre. It doesn't seem like too much has changed but it won't be long now before new steelwork for the building goes into place.
On the right, two windows from the loco shed have been bricked up as that face of the loco shed will now be covered up. The scaffolding has come down. In the middle, the floor is being preapred for concreting. The concrete will come all the way to the front of the buiding, level with the top of the rail.
In the foreground, concrete footings are being installed which will support the new steel uprights. This will be the front of the building - level with the front of the loco shed. Both buildings will be clearly visible from the miniature railway station. The carriage shed will be able to hold four operational British Rail Mk1 carriages to keep them out of the weather and away from vandalism.
We can also now confirm a mezzanine floor has been acquired which will allow a small store room to be installed above the planned workshop area at the back of the building!
Finally, thanks to you we have now raised £6,000 towards the final costs of the building, including fitting roller shutter doors and installing lights and power. We have £9000 left to raise before the contractors leave the site towards the end of the year.
