Friday the 6th of September 2024 was a special day for the Great Central in Nottinghamshire as passenger trains ran again, for the first time since the Covid 19 Pandemic.
Passengers were welcomed on board at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre for a one mile round trip to the junction with the Great Central main line. The train was formed of a Class 08 shunting loco with three carriages. Plans are in hand to extend the trip along the main line itself, south towards Rushcliffe Halt, now that bridge repairs are complete.
Trains are also operating on the 7th of September, alongside the second day of the Rail Ale festival. Vintage buses will connect the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire for visitors to the diesel gala.
